No-Code vs Custom Development
No-code tools and AI app builders are genuinely good at some things and genuinely bad at others. The expensive mistake is not choosing wrong at the start — it is refusing to switch when the signals are obvious.

Use no-code to test whether anyone wants the thing, especially for forms, workflows and internal processes. Move to custom code when platform limits start dictating product decisions, when you need to own the system, or when the product itself is your differentiator.

Where no-code genuinely wins
- Testing demand before writing any code at all

- Form-driven workflows, approvals and simple databases
- Landing pages, waitlists and concierge versions of a service
- Anything you intend to throw away once you have the answer
If a no-code build answers your question this month, build it. Paying for custom software to learn something a spreadsheet could have told you is the real waste.

The honest recommendation
If you have not yet proven anyone wants this, start with the cheapest thing that produces evidence, no-code included. We will say that in our written reply rather than sell you a sprint you do not need.
If you already have that evidence, or the product itself is what makes your business defensible, custom is cheaper across two years and removes the migration you would otherwise pay for later.

Can I launch a real business on no-code?
Yes, and plenty do. The constraint is rarely whether it works on day one — it is what happens when you need a behaviour the platform does not support, or when per-record pricing collides with growth.
When should I move off a no-code platform?
When platform limits are shaping your product decisions, when performance degrades with your real data volume, or when platform fees start to rival the cost of owning the code outright.
Is AI-generated code the same as custom development?
AI accelerates writing code; it does not replace deciding what to build, securing it, deploying it or maintaining it. Used well it lowers cost. Used as a substitute for engineering judgement it produces software nobody can safely change.
What does migrating from no-code cost?
It is effectively a rebuild plus a data migration, and the second version is usually better because you have real usage to design against. Budget for it as a project, not as an export.
